As one of Mzansi's most sought after musicians right now, Zakes Bantwini has been performing behind the decks, but he recently switched things up for The Glenmorangie Experience at Propaganda.

“I haven’t been using a band most of the time. I’ve been always behind the decks and this time around  I brought some horns and instrumentalists to help me on stage. From a musical perspective that is what we wanted to do,” he told TshisaLIVE.

I'm a person who loves colours. Glenmorangie is orange. I love fashion. Glenmorangie loves art and fashion. They are really about art, music and colourful things and I think that’s what really represents me and that’s why I agreed to the collaboration.”

This year Zakes and Jerusalema hit maker Nomcebo Zikode received their first Grammy nod in the best global performance category for their single Bayethe with flautist, producer and composer Wouter Kellerman.

“It’s a serious affirmation of the talent that maybe one is possessing.  Grammys are an epitome of  the music industry. When you are nominated for the Grammys you are really at the end. There’s nothing else above them. For me it simply says 'we affirm you as one the best, as one of the most talented musicians in the world', so it is a serious affirmation for me. It really speaks a lot and I  appreciate it.”

After 16-years of being in the entertainment industry, Zakes received his first South African Music Award.

Zakes said he wishes the credibility of the platform would not be questioned as often as it is.

“I’m happy about the Samas. I think we owe it to us as South Africans to really appreciate the Samas like we appreciate the Grammys.

“Success is not overnight. It is years of grinding and working and crying and frustrations but we keep going and doing what we need to do to get to that particular level. I've been at this for a very long time, professionally since 2006."

The Glenmorangie Experience will head to Khayelitsha in Cape Town on December 10.
