The death of former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has left many puzzled as to why the soccer star's family has waited nearly a decade for answers regarding his murder.

Senzo was gunned down in 2014 in Vosloorus during an alleged house robbery.

His then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, her sister Zandi, Kelly’s mother, Longwe Twala, Senzo, Tumelo Madlala and Mthokozisi Twala were said to be in the house when the soccer star died.

THE ACCUSED

Senzo's murder trial was postponed to May 2023 after two of the five accused changed their legal representative.

Attorney Tshepo Thobane was representing four of the accused, while advocate Zandile Mshololo represented the fifth.

Later, Sipho Ramosepele told the court he would represent Thobane's clients Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi.

THE WITNESSES

During the trial, Mshololo questioned how Longwe Twala escaped an armed gunman without being harmed.

Meanwhile, musicians Kelly and Zandi have faced much scrutiny on social media.

On Showmax's Life with Kelly Khumalo, the star said when she was planning the Gospel Explosion show in the Vaal, she met law-enforcement officers regarding security.

“How Thingo’s father was murdered is still a mystery to me. I’ve received a few death threats [since]. My last gig in KwaZulu-Natal, I received a threat two days before that they were going to kill me. Security for me is literally everything,” she said in her video diary.

Zandi, who has been vocal about taking the stand at the trial if necessary, spoke about the danger of cancel culture and shared her version of events in an exclusive interview with eNCA.

THE MYSTERY OF THE TWO DOCKETS

A second docket was introduced in court. It apparently names those in the house at the time of the incident.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it would make a decision regarding this docket once the trial is over.
