Ntsiki Mazwai has swallowed her words after she said women's rights were threatened by trans rights.

The poet and activist recently deleted and apologised for her statement after trans and gender-diverse organisations slammed her and called for her to remove her Twitter post.

“We, as organisations who exist to ensure that the human rights of all members of the LGBTIQ community are respected and upheld, call on Mazwai to remove this dangerous post and apologise to the trans community.

“Despite societal perceptions and attitudes that force transgender women at the margins of society, transgender women are women and we have always been part of African cultures and history, and therefore our existence will never be erased,” they said.

Though Mazwai apologised, she said she viewed trans women as “men who have transitioned”, not as women.

She said trans women were “erasing women”, referring to US reality TV star and retired Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete Caitlin Jenner transitioning.

“Beauty pageant ... sports ... it's not only Caitlin Jenner ... She is just an example. And in the past this didn't happen as it's human doctors who do this,” she said.

You can't force feed what you believe ... nobody has to believe in what you believe.”
