Actress Hellen Motsuki plays Melita, a gold-digging hospital receptionist Skeem Saam viewers love to hate. She's explained what has gone into playing the homewrecker who's on the tip of everyone's lips.

Taking to Instagram, the actress, whose character has been topping the Twitter charts daily due to the show's current storyline (she's been cheating with Mr Kgomo), shared a glimpse of what it takes to bring Melita to life.

“I could write a journal about these scenes, the ones past and the ones that are still coming. We all put our hearts into the storyline. It was intense, we felt lots of emotions. It was crazy fam. We wept, laughed, ran, sweated, encouraged each other. We worked. And I’m grateful that I was trusted with such a beautiful and impactful storyline. I’m beyond honoured.”

The actress said she's grateful her character keeps people glued to their screens and sparks conversations about homewrecking and its consequences.

“I gave it my all and I would like to believe we all did. I remember at some point I wept for real when they said cut and I couldn’t hold it. The most important thing is that we had fun, we love what we do, we love serving all the viewers across the continent.

Speaking to Sowetan, the actress said she was hit with a trolley by an elderly woman at a grocery store for her “gold-digging ways”.

“A few week ago I was busy shopping when a woman in her 60s hit me in the heel with a trolley. When I looked at her, she said, 'I did it purposely because you are stealing other women’s husbands. I swear if you do that to my husband, I will deal with you.' It was only then that it hit me that she thought I was Melita.”

Hellen said she has been reluctant to go out in public since the storyline started because it seems older women can't differentiate between her and the character.

And on the Twitter streets, tweeps can't get enough of her. There is even a song about her that has gone viral.
