Brenda Mtambo has launched a new body of work exploring self-discovery, spirituality, healing and mental health.
The singer describes her highly anticipated 12-track album, Sane, as a “big hug” to the listener as she poured her heart into the music. The albums lead single, Enza Kwenzeke, has already garnered significant airplay and positive reviews for the uplifting message of hope and faith.
“Music has become my comfortable space, my home. It doesn’t matter how I’m feeling, when I’m singing everything goes away. It feels like it’s a gift I have where music heals me. I’m in my own zone when I’m singing,” she told TshisaLIVE.
Brenda, who has been candid about her mental hardships since the peak of Covid-19 in 2020, said she is not in the business of creating hit songs but making thought-provoking music that can outlive her.
On the album, Brenda reflects on her transformative journey since taking up therapy and medication to deal with anxiety.
“Before I was diagnosed with anxiety, I was in flight mode, doing everything I was meant to do. Covid hit and I am faced with everything on HD because I haven’t dealt with a lot of things. So after that trip to the hospital, that’s where I learned I needed help as it was affecting my physical wellbeing.
“This album is more of a healing project. In this album I was healing. I was healing myself. It's very personal. It's my healing journey and I am hoping it will do the same thing that it does to me to everyone who listens to it.”
Brenda has assisted many women dealing with anxiety and hopes to educate more people about mental health challenges.
