Lorna Maseko is beaming with pride after a successful showcase in Los Angeles.

From magwingya (fried doughnuts) to pickled fish broth, Lorna turned South African staple food into fine dining cuisine.

The celebrity chef recently took to her timeline to share images from a dinner she held in the US, hosting A-list celebrities including Omarion and other Hollywood stars.

"This week I hosted my first pop-up in Los Angeles, California, celebrating South African food and showcasing my beautiful country and heritage," she said. "The event was attended by colleagues and friends, new and old. It’s always been my goal and vision to take South African food to the world.

"What an amazing evening and incredible crowd of people to have in one room, definitely one for the books and a very proud moment. Here's a glimpse of what went down. More coming soon."

She gave a shoutout to Omarion, speaking about how he might take his next trip to South Africa: "Omarion has an absolute love for South Africa. Thank you for pulling through."

In April, Lorna launched her catering company.

“If you have an event anywhere in the world, whether intimate or large, we’ll come to you and craft a unique culinary experience just for your event and guests," she said.

“We’ll discuss what you’d like the experience to be like and build the menu around that. Then we’ll bring everything needed to provide a beautiful and memorable table and menu. Get in touch with our 'Celebrate By Lorna Maseko' team and we look forward to creating incredible memories with you.”

Lorna has been taking strides in the culinary industry, from launching her cookbook to hosting the BBC Lifestyle show Homegrown Tastes South Africa, which premiered in March last year.

“Getting an international-based show has always been one of my goals because it is time to put South Africa on the culinary global stage. Another highlight for me is how beautiful this country is. There are gems here and I guess with Covid-19 restrictions being eased,  people can travel and see that,” she told True Love.

Among her many accolades is the 2020 Luxe Restaurant Awards' Culinary Icon Award.
