MajorSteez' Sihle “Steez” Mabena and Sandile “Major” Mabena have revealed AKA nearly bought their latest hit song, Smooth Operator.

During their sitdown on Chopping It With Bhuda, the R&B and hip-hop duo said they believed the late rapper was considering having their “biggest song” ever on his last album, Mass Country

“RIP the goat. Shout out to the Forbes family for their support. We really took our time with it because the last thing we wanted it to look like was opportunistic. The biggest thing for us was getting the family's blessing, so we waited,” said Steez.

Steez went on to reveal they had the single in the archives for more than a year-and-a-half.

“Kiernan tried to buy this song from us, he wanted to buy this song. He called Major and I at three in the morning, those were his operating hours.

“He’s like, I will give you R100K now for the song. He was in the early stages of making Mass Country, so I think he was considering it for Mass Country. I’m like nah boyzin, we need the song man and he was like good, it was a test. It wasn’t the test, he wanted the song.”

During an interview on Slikour On Life, the pair spoke about their collaboration with the Supa Mega.

They said they were honoured to have collaborated with the late rapper, who was an influential artist in local hip-hop culture.

“It is definitely a dream collaboration. Me and my brother grew up watching him, listening, and taking notes from him. Shout out to the late great. RIP. May his soul rest in peace. It’s definitely a smash record. It’s going to be on our debut album, The Sweet Life MajorSteez, so watch out for that one,” said Sandile.
