African culture celebrates the bodies of women, says the writer. The assault at the Noord taxi rank had nothing to do with culture or ukushela.

In response to David Lucas' piece 'Harassing women is not African tradition', I have the following to say:

I agree totally with the subject but am offended by the author's comparison of what those cretins at the taxi rank did (sexual harassment and assault) with ukushela.

When a man shelas a female there are no lewd, uncouth remarks and certainly not touching of her arse as to make her uncomfortable. How can approximately 50 grown men shela two girls en masse?

What took place at the Noord taxi rank is not African culture and is a criminal offence not only in terms of European standards but African as well.

In African culture, I am sure the author has witnessed reed dances and other forms of cultural apparel, the women a bare breasted and what passes for a 'skirt' is far skimpier than what these two girls were wearing.

These bastards must be arrested.
