A Zimbabwean maid was lucky to escape jail when she was sentenced to perform 420 hours of community service for fatally assaulting a 73-year-old granny in a dispute over $5 (R78.13).

According to myzimbabwe.co.zw, Sithabile Moyo, 23, pleaded guilty to culpable homicide for causing the death of Esnath Mutizwa.

Moyo hit Mutizwa once on the chest with her right elbow and she fell face first onto a pile of logs after she told Mutizwa that her grandson had stolen $5 from her.

She died instantly.

Gweru Regional Magistrate wholly suspended her five years sentence.
