Publisher Bethesda Softworks has confirmed that the launch weekend of id’s hell-’em-up has busted previous franchise sales records, doubling those of 2016’s Doom reboot.
Although no actual numbers are cited in the press stuff, Doom banked about 500,000 sales in its first two weeks or so of its launch on PC, so factor in consoles and work it out. Since the launch of Doom Eternal, the game has also clocked over 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, and generated a review average of about 90% on Metacritic. I guess it’s okay?
“We want to thank our millions of fans for their enthusiastic support of this amazing title,” says Bethesda accounts department guy Ron Seger. “Despite thousands of retail stores closing, we are pleased so many fans have been able to enjoy Doom Eternal.”
Got the FOMO? If you missed it in the pandemic panic, NAG swapped some toilet paper and hand sanitiser for a Doom Eternal collector’s edition for Xbox One, and it could be yours.
