ANCYL spokesman Floyd Shivambu was re-elected to the league's 35-member national executive committee (NEC) at the organisation's elective congress in Midrand on Sunday.

It was not clear if he would retain his position as spokesman. The new NEC was expected to elect its national working committee (NWC), which would then pick a spokesman.

The Star reported this week that Shivambu was said to have fallen out with ANCYL leader Julius Malema given his often hostile relationship with some reporters.

Shivambu allegedly referred to Independent Newspapers senior political correspondent Carien du Plessis as a "white bitch" in 2009. Du Plessis took Shivambu to the Equality Court over the matter. The case has not yet been heard.

Shivambu referred to Saturday Star journalist Kashiefa Ajam, a practising Muslim, as a "drunkard journalist", and to Eyewitness News radio journalist Stephen Grootes as a "racist white".

Members of the NEC include the league's top five officials, leader Julius Malema, his deputy Ronald Lamola, general secretary Sindiso Magaqa, deputy secretary Kenetswe Mosenogi and treasurer Pule Mabe.
