Police have arrested Johan Kotze, who is accused of orchestrating a gruesome assault on his estranged wife and of killing his teenage stepson, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.

"The elusive Johan Kotze, who evaded police capture has finally been arrested," said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

"He was arrested this morning in Modimolle at about 11.45am. He has been on the run since last week... The suspect will appear before the Modimolle Magistrate's Court soon."

Kotze, 50, had been on the run since the assault and murder in Modimolle a week ago.

A 42-year-old man who was allegedly forced to participate in the attack was arrested in Makapanstad near Hammanskraal north of Pretoria earlier on Wednesday.

On Tuesday night, police recovered Kotze's Toyota Fortuner in Modimolle and Mulaudzi warned that his arrest was imminent.
