The M2 freeway in Germiston was closed for traffic on Thursday morning after a truck lost some of its load of beauty soap, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

The accident happened in the west-bound lane near the M2 east split, Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng said.

Motorists were advised to use alternative routes as maintainance workers were trying to clear a 500m-stretch of slippery tarmac.

The driver, travelling to Edenvale from Cape Town, apparently misjudged a hairpin bend and some of the boxes on the trailer he was pulling fell off. The 26-year-old driver, who was alone, was unhurt. No other vehicles were involved.
