Guptas to launch TV channel
What happens when a former government spokesman, a journalist, a media darling and a kwaito musician walk into the same building?
The answer is the latest offering on our line-up of 24-hour TV news channels.
Just six days after the SABC launched its 24-hour news channel, the country is bracing itself for yet another. This time, one owned by the Gupta family.
MultiChoice Africa yesterday announced that Africa News Network 7 will go live on DStv Channel 405 on Wednesday.
It said the channel will focus on "constructive, nation-building stories in the interest of building a culture of unity and pride in South Africa".
Among those who will contribute to building the nation is controversial former government spokesman Jimmy Manyi who, MultiChoice said, will host a weekly hard-talk show, Straight Talk. Other well-known names signed up to present shows on the channel include journalist Chantal Rutter Dros, media personality Gerry Rantseli-Elsdon and kwaito musician Arthur Mafokate.
