105 New Year's babies in Limpopo, youngest mom 15

A total of 105 new year's babies, including a set of triplets, were born in Limpopo between midnight and noon on Wednesday, the provincial health department said.

The youngest mothers were a 16-year-old, who gave birth at Malamulele Hospital, and a 15-year-old, at Helena Franz Hospital near Dendron, spokeswoman Adele van der Linde said in a statement.

There were 53 boys and 52 girls born.

Tshilidzini Hospital in Thohoyandou welcomed the first baby just after midnight. The mother, Doris Mahlaule, gave birth to a boy weighing 3.7kg.

The hospital also had the first set of new year's twins, two boys born at 12.02am and 12.20am to Ntshelgedzeni Nemabaka. Twin girls were born in Groblersdal.

The triplets were delivered via Caesarean section in the Mankweng Hospital on Wednesday morning. At 11.29am a boy was born, weighing 1.6kg. He was followed by his two sisters at 11.30am, weighing 1.8kg and 2.1kg.
