The case against an Eastern Cape woman accused of illegally aborting her baby was provisionally withdrawn at the East London Magistrate's Court today. State Prosecutor Thulani Solani said the reason for this was to allow police to obtain all medical records and witness statements pertaining to the case and witness statements. The woman was released from custody at the East London police station where she has been kept since last Thursday. She was arrested in Queenstown by East London detectives after the head of a baby was found inside the portable toilet of an Eldo Coaches bus at the parking lot of the Windmill last Wednesday. The 30-year-old woman is not being named as she has not yet appeared in court. This morning the woman's family and her physically disabled husband formed part of those seated in the gallery. They were patiently waiting for her name to be called by Magistrate Leon Kemp. Just after 12pm a court orderly entered the court room with a list of names of those people who had their cases provisionally withdrawn. When the woman's name was called‚ the family of six members got up and left the court room. Outside the building the family refused to comment.Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said the woman had gone through various medical tests since her arrest. She will be summoned back to court once those test results are back.-RDM News Wire, Daily Dispatch..
