Senzo kin unaware of progress

The family of murdered Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa is not aware of any developments in the investigation into his 2014 killing. Senzo's father, Sam Meyiwa, yesterday said he had heard on radio and TV of "an imminent arrest" in connection with his son's killing."Somebody said there was something in the papers. The police have not contacted me on this.''The Hawks contacted me last month telling me that they had taken over the case and had been to the crime scene with Kelly [Khumalo] because he died at her house," he said.Meyiwa was reacting to a Sunday newspaper report that claimed that a suspect had been identified after a reconstruction at the crime scene two weeks ago and police expected to "pounce" on the killer this week. But Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi yesterday said the report was misleading."Everybody wants a breakthrough. We are also looking for a breakthrough but at the same time we feel the report itself is a bit misleading because it says arrests are imminent. And obviously it's from unnamed sources."Investigations are continuing and we are disturbed by reports that suggest that there is going to be a breakthrough. We view it as distasteful. The feelings of the family are not being taken care of.''It is not appropriate for anyone to suggest anything without the knowledge of the family. We are dealing only with the family. If there is anything to know, they are the first ones we must notify," he said.Khumalo is the mother of Senzo's child and was present when he was gunned down...
