One of former tennis star Bob Hewitt's rape survivors says she has finally found her freedom and that her dignity has been restored. The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) on Thursday dismissed the 76-year-old's appeal against his sentence for his two rape convictions and one of sexual assault.Hewitt must now report to correctional services authorities to start serving his effective six-year sentence and pay R100 000 to the justice department for use in anti-abuse initiatives. He was convicted in March 2015 of the crimes against three of his minor tennis students in the 1980s and 1990s. The woman‚ who has asked not to be named‚ on Friday told TMG Digital that she is elated with the SCA's decision‚ that she is playing tennis again and recently celebrated a tournament victory.“Over the past five years‚ I have had people tell me they know I enjoyed what Hewitt did to me. I've had people tell me I probably deserved it‚ dressed in a short skirt. I've been called a liar by people who were not there.“I have been turned away from potential jobs because of my involvement in the case.“I lost my home. I lost my car. I lost my son. I lost my grandchildren. I lost all my belongings … I lost my dignity. I lost my freedom. I lost friends. I lost family. I got sick.“[But now] I have my dignity and most important I have my freedom‚” she said in a social media post.Another one of Hewitt's rape survivors‚ Theresa “Twiggy” Tolken‚ said she was “very happy” to hear his appeal bid had failed.“[The] SA justice system proved no matter who you are‚ how old you are‚ you will have to answer for your crime.“Hewitt's actions have impacted on so many lives‚ not just the victims. The time has come for him to pay for his appalling actions‚” Tolken said from her New Zealand home. – TMG Digital..
