A fifth person has died in the fatal Pretoria bus crash.

According to emergency services on the scene, a Putco bus collided with an armoured van in Pretoria late on Monday afternoon. The accident took place on Motolo Road in Kameeldrift.

Netcare911 spokesman Shawn Herbst said two people from the cash-in-transit van and two people from the Putco bus were declared dead on the scene.

A fifth person, also a bus passenger, died later in hospital.

He said 10 people sustained serious injuries and were being treated by advanced life-support paramedics. Fifty others sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Once stabilised, Herbst said all the patients would be transported by various ambulance services to hospital.
