Enormous waves destroyed sea-facing balconies on the island of Tenerife, the largest of Spain's Canary Islands, off the coast of West Africa.

The Daily Mail reported that about 65 flats in two blocks facing the ocean had been evacuated.

It came after regional government officials decreed a state of alert as a fierce storm battered the north of Tenerife and other parts of the Canary Islands on Saturday and Sunday.

There were no reports of injuries.
