The ANC in Gauteng has "welcomed back" three former leaders of the Congress of the People.

"The ANC was their home before they went to form Cope," said spokesman Dumisa Ntuli.

The three are John Ngcebetsha, the former Gauteng provincial chairman and member of the Congress National Committee, Lunga Kepe, the former member of the Congress National Committee and Onkgopotse JJ Tabane, the former spokesman and adviser to the leader of Cope in Parliament.

"We expect more former leaders and members of Cope to come back to their organisation in the run-up to the local government elections and ANC centenary," said Ntuli.

"These leaders are now going to be referred to their relevant branches where they live so that they can take part in the ongoing task of building better communities."
