Defend Mandela’s legacy: Mashatile

The provincial chairperson of the ANC in Gauteng‚ Paul Mashatile‚ has called on members of the ruling party to defend the legacy of former president Nelson Mandela. “Remember‚ local government is in your hands. This year marks 20 years since the signing into law of our Constitution in 1996 by our father‚ Nelson Mandela‚ who has left us a proud legacy of reconciliation‚ unity‚ peace and dignity.“As the ANC and indeed the people of South Africa‚ we are called to be the children of Nelson Mandela.. to be primary defenders of his legacy… to be his foot soldiers. We will never betray his legacy and the teachings of his generation. His legacy remains forever in our hearts and in our mind‚” Mashatile said.He was speaking at the ANC’s provincial local government election manifesto launch held at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec‚ where over 85‚000 party supporters packed the country's biggest sporting venue in a show of force to demonstrate the ANC's dominance in the province.Mashatile told the crowd that the ANC would continue to ensure that those deployed in government had the requisite skills to execute people programmes.The ANC currently runs all the municipalities in Gauteng with the exception of the Midvaal and is facing a serious challenge from the Democratic Alliance and the Economic Freedom Fighters...
