EFF president Julius Malema has revealed that his party is in talks with expelled former ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule to join the red berets.

In an interview with TimesLIVE, Malema revealed that talks with Magashule were at an advanced stage.

“I’m talking to him. We’re at an advanced stage of the discussions. Electoral politics are politics of numbers. It’s very important that you talk to everyone.

“I’m talking to the man. When I say I’m talking to the man I mean the EFF is in advanced engagements with Ace Magashule.”

He declined to say what conditions were on the table, saying they would make an announcement when the talks have been concluded.

Magashule’s expulsion was this week confirmed by the ANC’s national disciplinary committee (NDC) after he failed to motivate why he should not be expelled.

The NDC found Magashule guilty of contravening several sections of the ANC constitution for failing to apologise for his decision to suspend party president Cyril Ramaphosa in May 2021.

Malema suggested that the EFF was in discussions with more senior ANC leaders to join the 10 year-old party.

“I’m talking to a lot of very senior people.” He declined to reveal their identities.

“We are likely to shock a lot of people at FNB Stadium [next month where the EFF will be celebrating it 10th anniversary] with the calibre of people who will be in attendance at that rally of the EFF.”

He said senior politicians are likely to announce joining the EFF after the rally next month.
