Despite admirable attempts from both sides to manufacture a result, the SuperSport Series match between the Chevrolet Warriors and the Highveld Lions finished in a draw at St George's Park on Sunday.

After losing the first two days to rain and a wet pitch, the sides agreed to some sporting declarations but in the end it was Mother Nature who had the final say.

The result leaves both sides without a victory in the competition after three matches each.

Needing 340 for victory in 97 overs, the Lions fell 44 short on 296 with three wickets remaining.

There was some intent shown by the Lions during various stages of the first and second sessions and, to a lesser extent in the third, but in the end the task proved too great.

The Warriors did nip out one wicket with the second new ball, but on a pitch decent for batting, their task was always going to be a tough one.

Stephen Cook scored a patient 79 off 191 balls at the top of the innings while Zander de Bruyn scored a match-saving unbeaten 55 in the middle.

Jonathan Vandiar also weighed-in with 47 and Vaughn van Jaarsveld 36.

Left-arm spinner Nicky Boje was the pick of the Warriors bowlers, returning figures of three for 94 in 37 overs.
