Kaizer Chiefs and defender Tsepo Masilela have been officially charged by Safa for bringing the association into disrepute following the player’s failure to honour a Bafana Bafana call up.

Chiefs and their star  left-back will appear before the South African Football Association (Safa) disciplinary committee on October 2, Sun Sport reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, Chiefs are charged with failing to ensure that Masilela reported for camp to be checked by Bafana doctors to confirm his alleged injury.

Masilela failed to report for national team duty for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier call-up against Mauritania and the Nelson Mandela Challenge match against Senegal.

“By ignoring these rules and the spirit of the Safa statutes, you have potentially affected the potential performance of the national team,” reads part of the charge sheet as Safa intensifies its crackdown on misbehaving players.

Bafana coach Ephraim Mashaba is expected to snub Masilela when he announces his squad on Tuesday to play in two international friendlies, against Costa Rica on 8 October and Honduras on 13 October respectively.
