Maritzburg United have completed the permanent signing of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Kwanda Mngonyama on a three-year contract.

The centre-back has been a target for Maritzburg for weeks, with the sticking point being that Sundowns wanted national team player Deolin Mekoa as part of the deal.

Mngonyama had spent the previous two seasons on loan at Maritzburg, making 51 starts, and before that had a season on loan at BidVest Wits.

He was a part of the South African side that competed at the recent Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
