Former SuperSport United, Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana left back David Kannemeyer has been appointed head coach of National First Division team Cape Town All Stars.

Kannemeyer replaces former boss Patrick Mabedi, who has joined Chiefs as assistant to head coach Steve Komphela, according to a post on the NFD's Facebook page.

All Stars finished ninth in the NFD last season.

Earlier this month the club failed in a bid to sell their franchise to a consortium led by Cape Town-based Ubuntu Trust.

Kannemeyer, 39, earned 15 caps for Bafana Bafana from 2000 to 2006.

He also played for Cape Town Spurs, Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and Mpumalanga Black Aces.
