Volkswagen is offering drivers a chance to test out the Amarok off-road vehicle - and do some good at the same time.

The Amarok is designed to be able to get to places which are out of reach for other vehicles while carrying a heavy load.

Its first Social Test Drive involved delivering supplies to the Zwanani Combined Primary School in a rural KwaZulu-Natal in a trip that took about four hours..

The car delivered  6 000 Pearson education books to the school, which had little to no books or resources for its 168 registered learners, four teachers and one principal.

The next test drive is scheduled for October - and will be delivering sewing machines and material to the rural community of Magashu just outside East London.

More test drives are planned in the run-up to December - if you want to apply, you can do so via the social test drive website.
