1. COLOUR CO-ORDINATE
To create a calm and spacious look and feel, stick to a complementary colour scheme. Too many clashing colours and patterns can end up looking cluttered. Create interest and warmth by including organic textures and favourite prints as accents.
2. MULTI-TASK
When investing in furniture, choose pieces that offer multiple functionality - this is a good space saver as you can adjust their usage according to your needs. A small pouf can be a table or a seat; some even provide storage. Find a bed with drawers underneath to store linen or toys.
3. REFLECT IT
Using mirrors and reflective surfaces is a great way to open up a small space - and if you can create more daylight using reflection, even better. Mirrors add a surprise element when used to frame different spaces and elements in your home.
4. SUSPEND AND FLOAT
Maximise floor space by keeping it clear of clutter. Cabinets and cupboards can take up a lot of space, but floating shelves and cabinets can create an airy look - and save floor space. Even hooks can play a role if used in a fun or funky way.
5. DOORS AND CORNERS
Utilise smaller corners by using corner shelving. This is a great way to store books and introduce decorative accents, or create a green corner or charging station. Spaces above doors are often overlooked and can be great for storing bedding, luggage and even pots and pans. Think vertical to maximise wall space.
