Mama Sarah Obama does not get all the fuss about the "phone call" picture of her famous step-grandson and President Jacob Zuma that generated mixed views on social networks this week. After all, Zuma could have been on an "important" call, said the 94-year-old when she saw the picture. The picture shows Obama teasing Zuma - who was photographed talking on his cellphone - while they shook hands at a UN luncheon for world leaders in New York on Monday."Mama Sarah" - as she is affectionately known - found nothing wrong with the picture."They are both my grandsons. I love them both. There's nothing wrong with him taking a call. It must have been important and I see no problem," she said through an interpreter.Mama Sarah was in South Africa to attend the South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, yesterday .The picture was widely circulated on social networks and soon funny memes emerged - making light of the situation. But while some slammed Zuma for not ending his call to greet his US counterpart - calling it an "embarrassment" - others defended the president's right to have his private conversation."If Jacob Zuma wants to take a call and keep Obama waiting, he can, and will and did," said one user.Chip Somodevilla, the photographer who shot the picture, reportedly said Obama, who was "working the room", greeting world leaders as he approached the podium to make a toast, joked with Zuma when he realised he was on the cellphone.mini_story_image_vleft1"It was brief. President Obama was talking to President Zuma. You could see he was joking, making his hand into a phone, gesticulating. They both had a very good laugh, before President Obama continued to greet other world leaders," said Somodevilla. The debate was sparked by Times LIVE, which posed a question to readers on Facebook: "Who is more important to Zuma than Obama, that he didn't put down the cellphone to greet the US president?''One Facebook user responded: "Mannerless Jacob Zuma! You're an embarrassment to Africa in general and to South Africa!!"Another post on Facebook said: "Barack Obama is not the president of the world."But Obama's "granny, as the US president calls Mama Sarah, told the Sunday Times that there was nothing "un-African" about the incident. At the awards last night, she was honoured for her work with Kenyan orphans and widows.Earlier in the week, she was a guest of honour at a reception on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast, where she thanked her hosts for making her inaugural trip to South Africa possible."By the grace of God I am here and I'm very happy. I have travelled to many countries in the world, but the love shown to me here is something else," Mama Sarah said.Although she had not received any formal education, she was determined to continue being a "champion for children to get an education"...
