Award-winning Maskandi artist Khuzani Mpungose claims that he fears for his life after several threats from his rivals and has hired six bodyguards to watch over him 24/7.

The star recently showed up at an event in KZN with five of his six bodyguards and posted a picture of his beefed up security team.

The star claims that his enemies are watching him and planning his downfall and he needed to get a team of security that were close enough for him to trust and strong enough to protect him.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE his manager Sbonelo Mbuyazi said that the star was under constant surveillance.

"Everyone has turned against him. Maskandi artists tend to group together but he is alone. He feels alone, like no one is with him. So he hired people to look after him. You know when you are a person in the spotlight and are as successful as him, there is a target on your back and you need to protect yourself."

Mbuyazi said the bodyguards will go with Khuzani to all his gigs in the future, including his upcoming  Full Up Moses Mabhida Stadium concert.

The concert has sparked controversy, as fans accused the Maskandi artist of copying Cassper's idea to "Fill Up Moses Mabhida Stadium".

During an interview with TshisaLIVE in September, Khuzani admitted that he had the idea to fill the venue came after Cassper announced the date for his #FillUpMosesMabhidaStadium concert in June.  He said his own show came from wanting to defend his province.

"We are the artists of KwaZulu-Natal. So if an artist from another province says he wants to come fill up your stadium, you must react. It is our home ground and we are defending our province. It can't be that the province praises someone from another province but we are from here and we say we are famous or big artists here."
