Maskandi star Khuzani Mpungose grew up idolising maskandi artist Khulekani 'Mgqumeni' Khumalo, and recently decided to donate R10,000 to the late muso's granny.

Mgqumeni died in December 2009 and his death left his family not only heartbroken, but also quarter to broke.

Khuzani heard how Mgqumeni's gogo had been struggling financially and gave her a Christmas gift to help her out.

Taking to Instagram, she shared snaps of his visit with ugogo and a short message from her in gratitude.

She claimed that she had been going through the most of late and prayed that God would help her.

She was surprised when Khuzani came knocking at her door with the donation.

"I am grateful to God and know that wherever God and my grandson are, they are smiling down on me this day."

Khuzani also called on maskandi fans to put their money where their mouths are and support local artists and their families.

He said that unity was needed to stop the phenomenon of artists dying broke.
