Thuli Phongolo says pit bulls are wild and not safe.

Taking to her Twitter timeline the actress and DJ joined a long list of people calling for the banning of the dogs after multiple deadly attacks across the country.

“Pit bulls are a NO-NO, I’m so glad people are taking a stand against having them as pets. My ex had 3 & it was always terrifying being around them alone especially if they weren’t fed yet or fed on their regular time, they go wild! They are not safe, RIP to the young souls lost," she wrote.

In her comment sections her followers had mixed reactions to banning the breed.

“I'm so glad I have two of them. And knowing they are the most lovable dogs ever, they make the perfect house pets and they absolutely adore children and people... They love cuddles, kisses and playing, my two are absolutely amazing and wont give them up for anything in the world,” said one.

Sunday Times reported the National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) said it received a number of pit bull surrenders.

The council said it had established that people were acquiring pit bulls for the wrong reasons; mostly for protection and as a “weapon or as a status or power symbol”.

“The NSPCA can confirm that SPCAs around the country have been receiving a number of pit bull surrenders. We are sure other animal welfare organisations might also be receiving pit bull surrenders,” said NSPCA spokesperson Keshvi Nair.
