Close friends and family will gather on Saturday to bid farewell and take amapiano pioneer, musician and businessman Oupa 'DJ Sumbody' Sefoka to his final resting place.

The funeral service is taking place at his home at Ga-Masemola, Limpopo.

The musician was reportedly shot dead on Sunday morning with circumstances surrounding his death under investigation.

A statement by the family said, “details surrounding his passing cannot be disclosed as investigations are still ongoing”.

His death sent shock waves across the industry, with famous friends and colleagues paying tribute to him.

The DJ's memorial was held at Lewende Woord church in Centurion, and he was  remembered as a hard-working, ambitious man who always made things happen.

Cassper, whose relationship with DJ Sumbody began when the musician started his radio career in 2014, couldn't hold back his tears at his memorial.

“He was an old soul, very grounded. It was sort of like you had a father and a friend in one person. He taught me a lot of things I didn't know and a lot of things I had forgotten from my parents and I'm very grateful to have had a friend like that.”

DJ Sumbody's business partner and long-time friend Kagiso Setsetse spoke of their 22-year friendship and journey in the industry since opening Ayepyep in 2016 in Sunnyside.

“He never gave up. We have lost a soldier, a brother and a community leader — 22 years of friendship. Oupa was the brother I never had. He had a plan for anything.”
