Mzansi is cringing over an abusive scene between Mqhele and Hlomu in Showmax’s The Wife.
From the first to the second seasons of the series, viewers witnessed Mqhele (previously played by Bonko Khoza) raise his hand multiple times to Hlomu (played by Mbalenhle Mavimbela) and later apologise, vowing to never to it again.
“When you wear that watch or look at it, I want you to remember that love is patient and kind. And I know it takes time to love someone right. Forgiveness takes time and I’m willing to earn it no matter how long it takes,” he said.
In a recent episode of the third season, Mqhele (now played by Wiseman Mncube) questioned Hlomu on why she had returned home late at night and failed to answer her phone. Mqhele slapped Hlomu when she replied she hadn’t been busy and had just chosen not to pay attention to her phone.
The episode ended with Mqhele asking for forgiveness as Hlomu sobbed in their child’s nursery.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you. I don’t know what came over me. I’m sorry,” he said. “I know I promised to never lay a hand on you ever again.”
Tweeps took to their timeline, reacting to Mqhele going against his promise.
