Former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana keeper Brighton Mhlongo has ventured into broadcasting after scoring a gig as a presenter on The Morning Show.
Brighton, who retired from soccer at age 30 after an accident during training in 2001, said he always saw himself on television beyond being a soccer player or doing interviews.
“My venture into broadcasting was inspired by my love for media and marketing. Post matric I studied marketing and communications. However I had to drop out because of football commitments, which is a decision I partly regret.
“During my playing days I’d go for interviews and I enjoyed that space. With my nature and character it was easy to see myself in that space. As a goalkeeper you have to be vocal and charismatic at times so that kind of helped me navigate through the media space,” he told TshisaLIVE.
During his days as a soccer player, Brighton would envision himself as the presenter when being interviewed.
Now he's fresh into the space and says he has a long way to go.
“I try take it one step at a time. The pressure to deliver will always be there. I’ve known that since I was a kid. I want to focus on this big break and make the most of it, and let God handle the rest. I am grateful for this opportunity.”
The Morning Show is set to broadcast simultaneously on e.TV and eNCA seven days a week from May 1.
