Rapper Emtee has opened up about his performance at Cotton Fest in Durban.

Taking to his Twitter timeline, he said he was emotional on stage and not drunk like some tweeps alluded to.

The Durban edition of Cotton Fest took place on July 2 on the Kings Park Stadium outer fields, just after the Durban July festivities.

“Shit was overwhelming. Riky, Kiernan, so much on my mind. Wanted to cry for real. I wasn’t drunk. I don’t drink alcohol. Seeing the people of Durban for the first time in a long time. I was just emotionally f*cked bout a lot. Still am,” he wrote.

Rikhado “Riky Rick” Makhado died aged 34 on February 23 2022 after taking his own life, while Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was gunned down outside a popular Durban restaurant on February 10 this year.

The rapper's death sent shock waves through the country.

In 2021 AKA hosted a young Q&A on the TL, where fans got a chance to find out some fun facts about his greatest hits and other titbits.

One tweep asked the rapper why he hadn't worked with Emtee.

With a laughing emoji, AKA said of the Roll Up hit-maker: “I love Emtee. But he’s such a deep and complex character. For us to do a project we would have to live in the same house or something for a month to really grasp the concept.”

Taking to Instagram, Lerato Sengadi expressed how losing four rappers — HHP, ProKid, Riky Rick and AKA — was devastating for the industry and Mzansi.

“Do you guys understand how much the game, the entertainment industry and the country as a whole has lost?! These men (who are all fathers) are: Icons. Legends. Innovators. Blueprints. GOATS. Pillars. Superstars ... the list is endless!!! This is devastating! They are Irreplaceable! Wow! It’s so un-f**ken-real,” she wrote.
