South African music duo Major League DJz continue to fly the South African flag high.

The in-demand duo made history this weekend as the first amapiano act billed at the world’s largest and most well-known dance music festival Tomorrowland in Belgium, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Major League DJz’s set at Tomorrowland was preceded by another global achievement as they graced the cover of DJ Mag as the first amapiano act on the coveted cover and the third South African musicians (after Black Coffee and DJ Lag).

“DJ Mag is the biggest DJ magazine, so it means a lot to be on the cover,” said Major League DJz’s Bandile Mbere.

Banele Mbere adds: “It’s been a dream for us to be on the cover. We’ll treasure this moment.”

The name Major League DJz is now synonymous with having popularised the amapiano genre. Their consistent efforts to champion the homebred sound on global stages and platforms haven't gone unnoticed. They were recently the centre of a Culture Desk opinion piece published in The New Yorker

“A new form of South African dance music is thriving. A pair of twin brothers, known as Major League DJz, want the rest of the world to pay attention,” wrote Kelefa Sanneh from The New Yorker.
