I was surprised but prepared: Envic on his 'unexpected' Idols SA eviction

Up until Saturday Envic Booysen was in the running to win the last season of Idols SA. However, that won't happen now as he was recently evicted. 

Though it's the end of the road for Envic, who hails from the small town of Grabouw in the Western Cape, he plans to whip out that lyric book in which he has been writing songs with the hopes of going big one day after his life changed after entering Idols SA.

He told TshisaLIVE he thought after the eviction people would forget that there was once Envic until he realised that his social media was exploding, with his fans wanting to know what's next and encouraging him not to give up. 

How does it feel making it this far, only to be evicted on Saturday?

“I've always wanted to enter Idols and I totally forgot about this whole Idols thing until one day I saw an ad while at work saying it was the last season. So I did audition fast forward I'm in theatre week, again in the top 12.

“It was a surreal experience but if I could I'd do it all over. It's a blessing because not many people can do what they love in front of the whole world, for me that is amazing. Being evicted on Saturday, I'm not gonna lie, I was very surprised, but doing the competition you have to prepare yourself for going through it and also going home because it is part of life that someone will go home every week. So I was surprised but I was also kind of prepared.”

Why did you enter Idols SA?

“I did many local competitions in my younger years, in primary and high school, and also for me the reason I entered is that it's unfortunate that when many people don't know you, it's a bit harder for people to take you seriously and to listen to you. I wanted to enter Idols so that people would take me seriously, people can look at me and say here is someone who has the potential to create beautiful music and they can see that I'm an entertainer and performer at heart. For me that was the main thing. Yes, we all want to win, [but] that was the icing on the cake for me — it was about getting my foot in the door.”

What was your favourite moment with the other contestants?

“My favourite would definitely be when we performed Abalele, the group song in the top 10. Preparing for that moment was so much fun, but also on the night looking back, that was my favourite moment with other contestants.”

What do you want your supporters to remember you for?

“They must remember that there was this one guy on Idols that went from this journey 100% authentically himself, whether people liked him or not he did it. I feel like there is a lesson in life with anything you take on. If you do something do it 100%, that way people will fall in love with you. If it makes you happy do it.”

Which genre will you be singing when you venture into music? 

“I'm an old soul when it comes to music, so RnB and soulful music, music that touches the hearts. For me, I think, that's my lane. In the competition I saw whenever I did those type of songs, people were gravitating towards me, so soul music.”
