Inkabi Zezwe have shot their shot, expressing their plans for their album Ukhamba to be considered for the 66th annual Grammy Awards

They announced their submission for the prestigious award ceremony on their Instagram timeline: “Bathe shoot your shot angithi? Cela nisfake Recording Academy,” read the post.

They submitted their album for consideration in three categories: Best Global Music Album, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Best Immersive Audio Album.

Their hit song Umbayimbayi was submitted for nomination for Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Performance.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE after they released Umbayimbayi, the pair said their coming together was organic.

“Maturity and respecting each other, more than anything, was key in this collaboration. I'm glad this is happening now because it is the right time. We have grown and seen a lot. Apart from what's happening now, we have had ideas to work on something,” Big Zulu told TshisaLIVE

“When I was working with Big Zulu, [he] helped me get through the rut I was in. This was more than just music for me. I can make music that is more bright and commercial, which I haven't done since 2016. His energy helped me draw inspiration as well. I was happy the whole time recording the album,” Sjava said.

Uncle Waffles recently shared she was in the running for two nominations at the Grammys: the Best Global Music Album and Yahyuppiyah is being considered for Best African Music Performance.

“This part of my journey is even more exciting as I’m proud to announce I’m in the running for two Grammy nominations. I need my babies to share this post for me. If you’re a member of the @recordingacademy, I’d appreciate your support. Thank you to everyone who made this song become what it is,” she wrote.
