The electric South African Afro Tech sensation formerly known as DJ Infinix, has announced to the world her official new stage name — Am’Yoli.

The name Am’Yoli is inspired by her two kids, and is an amalgamation of their names.

“I’ve been a DJ for so long, so I thought it was time for something new and I wanted to inspire industry moms and women who still think our line of work is limited to men and young people. Am’Yoli is a combination of my daughter and my son’s names. I wanted to speak to my inner child and keep the promises I made to myself and it resonates with who I am now,” she told TshisaLIVE.

“Infinix was a young girl figuring out her place in the music industry more focused on DJing, also exploring with different sounds and Am’Yoli is more bubbly, comfortable in her own skin. With the experience she’s gained over the years she knows who she is and what she stands for and will share more of her singing talent, strictly Afro tech and focused on more of the international market.”

The DJ and singer did a Q&A session with TshisaLIVE on the strides she's been making in the music industry and on her future plans.

Tell us about your singing career, why aren’t a lot of people aware of this?
I am such a perfectionist and shy lol. I wanted to take my time with my singing career because it’s something so organic and I wanted to be confident about my message. Now I’m at a place in my life [where] I’m ready to share that part of myself with the world.

What projects are you dropping this year and who are you collaborating with?
This year I’m dropping singles just to give you a taste of what Am’Yoli is about. I’m collaborating with Naak, OkMalumkoolkat, Eltonnick and Kgzoo and I’m planning to work with more dope talents, but all my songs are strictly Afro and I’ll be singing on most of them.

Tell me about your collaboration with Naak?
The song with Naak is produced by one of my favourite Afro tech producers Eltonnick. I thought of Naak for this one coz of his energy and what I wanted to achieve. The song is about how far we've come and realising that we’re living our dreams. It’s a positive song about the possibility of achieving your dreams.

What’s the big vision for the Am’Yoli brand?
The big vision is breaking boundaries and spreading my evolution for women all over the world, that we can be anything we set our minds on and still have families and raise incredible children without falling short in our careers
