Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) are expected to turn to the High Court in Johannesburg to fight for a community evicted from Marlboro near Alexandra.

The LHR in its application wanted the City of Joburg either to return the evicted families to the land, or provide them with alternative accommodation, the Sowetan newspaper reported.

Earlier this week, metro police demolished shacks on the land, sparking a protest by members of the community who barricaded streets with rocks and burnt tyres.
