Two men were found burnt to death near Hartbeespoort Dam, in North West, yesterday in a suspected mob killing after they were allegedly hijacked outside Johannesburg on Saturday night.

The Jerusalem Post last night reported that the victims were believed to be Israeli mobsters - Dotan Shukrun and his cousin, Carmi Shukrun.

Police, who did not identify the victims, said they believed the men were first shot and later set alight in their BMW. This was after they were stopped by occupants of bakkie in Lonehill, Johannesburg, earlier.

Unconfirmed reports said the bakkie might have been fitted with blue lights, which were apparently used to flag down the men.

Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said police were still trying to establish whether the men found dead near Hartbeespoort Dam were the same as those hijacked in Lonehill.

According to the Jerusalem Post report, Dotan Shukrun, a former leader of an Israeli crime organisation and his cousin, fled to South Africa following the death of Yossi Castro, another senior mob figure who was killed 10 months ago.
