One of the major qualms of internet daters is that it is easy to be duped by staged or edited profile pictures. But scientists at the University of Western Australia suggest the character of a woman can be assessed simply by looking at one small photograph of her face.Participants in the study, led by Dr Samantha Leivers, were given 17 cards, each with photos of two women on them, matched for age and ethnicity. One woman was of unshakeable fidelity, and the other had, in the past, been caught cheating on a partner. Most of the participants could guess correctly who the heartbreakers were. The researchers believe that faces give clues to emotional and empathetic ability. The study concluded that, despite showing neutral expressions, perhaps the subtle differences in the female subjects' facial expressions betrayed their true nature.
