Killer car possibly came from bad batch

Jeep Grand Cherokee models similar to the one that killed US actor Anton Yelchin on Sunday may have had mechanical problems since as early as 1993 and 1998. According to a report by Car magazine in 2002, Chrysler recalled 1.6 million of its 1993 and 1998 production runs of the Jeep Grand Cherokee following complaints that gear problems made the cars jump from the parking to reverse gear unexpectedly.Star Trek actor Yelchin died when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV rolled down a driveway and pinned him against a mailbox pillar and security fence at his Los Angeles home.A worldwide recall of 1.1 million of the vehicles was issued in April this year, following complaints that the car was prone to rolling away after drivers exit. The issue had been linked to 41 injuries.Following Yelchin's death, the company issued a statement saying a thorough investigation into the incident was being conducted and hoped to come up with a "permanent" remedy to the problem later this year...
