Ramaphosa to speak at Afrikanerbond event‚ with nation-building in mind

With “building a prosperous South Africa” at the forefront of his mind‚ President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Wednesday address the Afrikanerbond Centenary Celebrations.

The event - to commemorate the centenary of the formation of the Afrikanerbond on June 5 1918 - takes place in Paarl‚ Cape Town.

The Afrikanerbond was established to “look after the economic and cultural interests of the Afrikaner community”‚ the Presidency said in a statement.

The statement said that he was speaking at the event “as part of engaging key stakeholders towards building a prosperous South Africa”.

Ramaphosa’s spokesman‚ Khusela Diko‚ said: “President Ramaphosa’s attendance will provide an opportunity for him to engage the Afrikanerbond openly about his vision for the country‚ which is to rally all South Africans to do anything they can in their walks of life or circles of influence to support and add impetus to government's endeavours to build a prosperous and united society.”
