'Genius' Cape Town City head coach Benni McCarthy gets all the love after Sundowns win

“Benni McCarthy, you are a genius, sir.”

This was the sentiment of most Cape Town City fans, who took to Twitter to praise the team’s head coach for the club’s win on Tuesday.

City showed Mamelodi Sundowns who was boss when they won an Absa Premiership game 2-1 at Cape Town’s Athlone Stadium.

As it unfolded, the game dominated Twitter trends, but City quickly became the focus as congratulatory messages poured in.

Kermit Erasmus and Chris David put the points on the board for City, which now occupies third position on  the Absa Premiership log.

On Saturday, City impressed their fans when they scored three unexpected second-half goals, beating Bidvest Wits 3-2 at Johannesburg’s Bidvest Stadium.
