Indicative of hard times, the Durban Motor Show closed its doors three years ago, citing the recession as the reason.

Next weekend, however, the feast for petrolheads makes a comeback. But this year, they have added a Drift.

The show will take place at the Durban Exhibition Centre, and next to it, the SupaDrift Series will have high-powered cars competing for pole position.

Drifting is one of the world's fastest-growing motor sports. Competitors slide rear-wheel-drive, 600 bhp cars around a course - with tyres smoking and engines roaring.

South Africa's top 16 drivers will thrill Durban Motor Show visitors as they compete for top position in the eighth event of the 9-stop SupaDrift national series. The competition will take place in the Durban City Centrum car park on all three of the exhibition days, from Friday to Sunday.

Exhibition times are from 10am to 9pm Friday and Saturday, and 10am to 6pm on Sunday.

Organisers of the show and the Sunday Times Extra are giving away five double tickets to the spectacle - all you need to do is answer the following question.

How many drivers will compete in the Super Drift Series next weekend?

  • E-mail your answer, and contact details, to kznextra@sundaytimes.co.za before 11am on Wednesday.
