Does your partner keep a spare set of clothes at work? This is just one of the ways people having affairs cover up their behaviour, according to a survey on a cheating website

Cheaters are meticulous when it comes to covering their tracks, says Noel Biderman, CEO of AshleyMadison.com, a website for extra-marital affairs.

"We see that a heightened level of hygiene is a common side-effect of keeping secret rendezvous under wraps. Washing away any evidence of a lover's perfume, lipstick or cologne is an essential part of keeping an affair concealed from one's spouse."

A survey of 1,243 members of AshleyMadison.com asked adulterers how they cover their tracks when a shower at home just is not possible.

Here are their tricks to keeping an affair concealed while on the go:

•       27% of men have a gym membership not to work out, but to use the showers after meeting up with a lover.

•       38% of men and 44% of women have a secret stash of hygiene products hidden in their car (23%), at work (49%), or both (11%).

•       49% of women carry extra makeup to reapply after a secret rendezvous.

•       55% of men and 33% of women keep an extra set of clothes in the office should their frolicking mess up their frocks.

•       32% of women and 26% of men carry an extra bottle of perfume or cologne to mask the evidence.
