Short, sweet and to the point: that’s how someone on Twitter described Thursday night’s E! News special about Bonang Matheba, where she dished a little dirt on her love life.

The 28-year-old TV and radio host was the subject of a new, much-hyped about series by the US pop culture channel featuring a host of South African celebrities.

During the broadcast, Matheba was the top trending topic on Twitter, as she had been for most of the day - but for a completely different reason. Her alleged affair with rapper AKA was confirmed by his ex, DJ Zinhle.

While it seemed to have been a bad day for Queen B, as her fans affectionately call her,  we imagine the scandal resulted in more publicity for the E! special. Unlike the usual specials from the channel (be it True Hollywood Story or Beyond Candid), this wasn’t an hour long: it was actually only 15 minutes.

The special sped through Matheba’s background (from her childhood in Mafikeng to being raised by a single mother), her road to fame and, of course, her current success (including her collaboration with Woolworths on a lingerie line and becoming a Revlon ambassador).

During the special, Matheba implied she was born to be famous. She said: “I’ve been a big deal for a very long time. I was always the centre of attention.”

Anyone hoping for an in-depth look into the woman behind the fame was sorely disappointed: the special was better suited to people unfamiliar with Matheba and her public persona.

During one segment, the Top Billing presenter “addressed” the domestic abuse allegations against her ex-boyfriend, DJ Euphonik, with a vague Eat Pray Love-style quote about lessons learnt from past relationships and just being yourself.

When Matheba’s rumoured ex-fling, Nigerian superstar D’Banj was brought up, she admitted to the camera there was a man in her life, although she wouldn’t name him (“you know him”, she teased us).

She started talking about how a great relationship could boost your self-esteem and unleash the “sex beast inside of you, you didn’t know existed”.

She continued: “You become this sexpot and you really become emancipated and you start celebrating yourself as a woman.”
